Henderson Family YMCA
The YMCA’s Safety Around Water program equips children with essential water safety skills to help prevent drowning and build confidence in and around water. This free, community-centered program encourages kids to explore their natural curiosity while learning how to stay safe—opening the door to a lifetime of fun, healthy, and safe experiences in aquatic environments. Offered at no cost to participants, Safety Around Water is provided in partnership with Vance County area schools, focusing on teaching 2nd grade students vital safety skills that can save lives.
Triangle North Healthcare Foundation and Vance County Area Schools
The goal of the Safety Around Water Program is to prevent childhood drowning by teaching essential water safety skills to 2nd grade students in Vance County schools. Through free, school-based lessons, the program empowers children with the confidence and knowledge to stay safe in and around water—laying the foundation for a lifetime of safe aquatic experiences. As a volunteer, your support directly helps create a safer, more confident generation of swimmers and water-aware children. Completion of all required paperwork, training videos, and attendance at the in-service training are mandatory before volunteering in the program to ensure a safe and supportive environment for all participants.
